This weeks question is more geared toward the GraphicRiver authors who have been selling on the marketplaces for a while. I am wondering if you have learned anything about selling on the marketplaces since you first started? Have you learned any tricks for higher selling files? Any advice on what works and what doesn’t?
So, my question this week is:
What advice would you give new authors about the marketplace to help them increase their sales?
I would love to join in this discussion, but I have pretty much already shared my advice about selling on the marketplace in this blog! In case you missed any of those post, here are some of them:
For sake of being festive, I thought it would be fun to hear what everyone is wishing for for the holidays this year? Why don’t you share a “in my wildest dreams” gift and a more realistic gift? Don’t expect any Oprah style surprise gifts from me or anything though!
I myself would have to wish for the new 27 inch iMac as my “in my wildest dreams” gift. In a more realistic approach, I would probably have to ask for a sweet iPhone clock radio. On that note, do you guys have any suggestions?
So, what are you guys after this holiday season?
Lucky for us, the web 2.0 design trend has come and gone. It was fun while it lasted, but lets face it, that design style makes the internet look like it was designed by CareBears. 2009 has seen some cool designs trends. For a recap of some of the most popular design trends, check out this post by Smashing Magazine. If you want to learn to how to accomplish some of the design trends of 2009, check out this post by Outlaw Design Blog.
But, enough about the years gone by. Today I want to hear from you about design trends of the future. What do you think is going to be the next design trend?

Today’s discussion is more of a light hearted one than a serious one. Really, I would just like to hear what everyone’s favorite font is and why? You don’t have to have a complex reason for liking it, it could just be pretty! I’m no typophile, but I still enjoy a good font. I couldn’t tell you what makes a font good or bad, but I know a bad font when I see it.

I guess this question is geared more toward web designers or anyone else who has ever tried to craft their own portfolio website. Why is it that we as web designers can design client websites all day long, but when it comes to our portfolio site we constantly draw a blank?

This post is a lot cooler than it sounds and was actually a lot cooler to put together than I thought it would be. I came across a lot of really cool files I had never seen in the marketplaces before. I gathered these files from a discussion post I did a while back asking for authors to share their top selling file. It didn’t have to have a lot of sale, but just be their top selling file. I wanted to use this as a way to help promote some of the great files that may not have a ton of sales.
The result was a great collection of files, some of which I had never seen. Job well done guys! Its easy to see why these are your top selling files. While I did browse every file listed in the comments, I just picked 10 at random to showcase. If you want to see the rest, and I suggest you do, you can view the comments here.

There are a wide variety of designers that come to GraphicRiver in search of the perfect file for their various projects. Some are freelancers looking for print designs to help look more professional. Others are web designers in search of stylized elements to help make their job that much easier.

I really enjoy helping out new freelancers and designers. As such, I would like to offer my advice to anyone willing to ask me a question. What I am proposing is a “Dear Abbey” type column, but without all the sex and personal problem junk. Rather, I would like to help you all with any problems or questions you have with the freelance design business. I am also happy to take questions about the marketplaces if you have any.
Rather than posting a boring written reply to your answer, I’ll be doing a combination of a video and written response.
So, I guess that makes this weeks discussion, what do you want to know about the business of freelance designing?
I recently started reading Gary Vaynerchucks new book, Crush It. First let me say that the book is nothing short of amazing. It is a nice mix of Garys history, business advice, and inspiration. As I have been reading the book, I have been thinking about how I can use the principles in it for my own design business and other ventures. Recently, I have been pondering how these same principles could be used for authors in the marketplace.

Sometimes I feel bad that I can’t feature everyone here on the GraphicRiver blog. There are so many great files on here that will probably never get featured. So, in order to help remedy that situation, I thought I would give you guys and girls a chance to showcase your top selling file. (more…)
