Getting Your File Approved, Part One

This week, we’re proud to feature a two part series written by Ben Gibbin, known as our very own bgm, one of GraphicRiver’s hard working reviewers. Ben and the rest of the team have handled thousands of files between them, and as such, they know better than anyone what common mistakes to avoid and tips to follow to make the submission (and approval!) process as easy as possible. Ben shares his technical tips and basics with us today. Don’t forget to watch next week for Part Two!

Take it away, Ben!

As a reviewer on GraphicRiver, I’ve grown to know the Review Guidelines very well and reviewed more files than grains of sand on the beach. I’ve reviewed some truly awesome files and then, some that aren’t so good.

In the case of the latter, the files usually haven’t followed the guidelines. It’s absolutely imperative you follow them to the tee. And so, with that in mind we’ve decided to publish a helpful two-parter series on how to increase the likelihood of having your file approved to our wonderful marketplace. (more…)

Screenr: Create video tutorials in minutes!

While there may not be any statistics to back up the fact that marketplace files with video tutorials sell more, I say that they at least have a higher perceived value. By having a file that has a higher perceived value, you create the impression that your files are worth more than similar files without video tutorials. The result of this perceived value will hopefully be more sales. In this post, I share with you a tool that makes it so easy to create screencasts that you have no excuse for not making one!

Examples of Good File Images and Tips

On the GraphicRiver market place, a files image can speak more than the files description. That’s not to say that the files descriptive text isn’t important, but it is certainly lower on the list of importance. Because the GraphicRiver market place sells stock images, it is important that your files main image does a good job at showcasing your file, and if need be, describing it. Further down in this post you will see a selection of some GraphicRiver files that have done a good job at creating a good sales image for their files.

Ideas to Increase Your Sales

I think it is safe to assume that many of you selling files on GraphicRiver are doing so to make some extra cash. Some of you might even be doing it to replace your income. With some authors making over a quarter of a million dollars, who wouldn’t want to try!? While I am far from the million dollar mark, I thought I might share some ideas that could possibly help you increase your sales overtime. If you are looking to make some serious passive income from the marketplaces, these ideas should help you do just that.

How to Write a Good File Description

Designers aren’t sales people. If they were, we probably wouldn’t have the famous “feast or famine” quote associated to how we make money. If a designer worked on their sales technique as much as they work on improving their design skills, one could probably double their own income. If that is the case, why do we write sub par sales letters, put off calling potential clients, and do a poor job with our website copy?

Spice Up Your Profile

Want to catch a buyer’s eye? GraphicRiver user, HQM, is here to show you show you how you could easily spice up your Envato Marketplace profile with eye-catching graphics and ways to update your buyers. Take it away, HQM!

I’ll use a few graphics I’ve made myself for my profile and for this tutorial. The main thing is to keep the profile as clean and readable as possible, at all times. If we have to much or to little information we can actually lose a future client. This profile as your very own personal portfolio to show of what you do and what you have done. I know not all great artists out there have their own website or portfolio so this is actually a great place to show the world what you are able to create.

What a Good Marketplace Profile Should Look Like

I was looking around on YouTube at some Photoshop tutorials and just happen to notice the words “graphicriver” in the description of one of them. It so happened that the Photoshop video tutorial was created by a GraphicRiver author named KLANDA. KLANDA’s smart marketing and well informative profile page really impressed me. I think every Envato Marketplace author can learn a lot from how KLANDA is doing things.

How To Combat Shrinking Front Page Exposure

Mark has written a fantastic guide, over on VideoHive’s blog, on increasing file visibility, there by increasing sales for authors and combating shortened front page exposure as marketplaces grow:

I’ve been around since the early days of FlashDen, and have seen all of the other marketplace doors open up. This is not a situation unique to the one you frequent most. It happens on each site, at some point down the line. Once the author base grows, and submissions become more regular front page exposure becomes less and less. It’s imperative to each author’s success to not ever depend on the front page for sales. As authors we must evolve with the site and not against it.

Throughout the course of my travels with Envato, I’ve realized there are 4 very important parts to becoming successful. All of them help kick the front page addiction new authors grow so accustom to.

Check out all of Mark’s tips at the VideoHive blog!

GraphicRiver Affiliate Links and Banners

Here is a short screencast on where you can find your affiliate links and banners for all of the Envato Marketplaces. This of course includes GraphicRiver, ThemeForest, FlashDen, AudioJungle, and VideoHive.

You can use these affiliate links and banners to either promote your own work on the marketplace or to earn affiliate commissions by recommending others to purchase off the marketplace websites. The area of the marketplace websites that house the links and banners also give you access to high quality versions of the sites logos. This way you can use the logos to customize the way you show off your affiliation to the Envato Marketplaces.
