9 World Class Icon Designers

I have an obsession with icons. It’s true. I love them. I collect them like kids collect baseball cards and Pogs. Kids still collect Pogs right? If I see a cool icon set or a really polished icon, I have to download it. Even if I have no use for the icon or any project to use it on, I have to have it.

Needless to say, I am always excited when I see quality icon sets for sale on GraphicRiver. So, to inspire some of you icon designers out there, I thought I would post a round up of some of the top icon designs out there.

Check out what these mastermind icon designers are doing. Once your creative juices get flowing from all this amazingness, go and start designing some icon sets for me to buy without reason!

Featured File – Web Hosting 2.0 Package

I have absolutely no doubt that the Web Hosting 2.0 Package by GraphicRiver author, paulungureanu, will sell very well. In fact, it is for that reason that I decided to showcase it in this weeks featured file. I’m not sure if paulungureanu created this file out of boredom, or by looking around at some of the popular styles and files on the marketplace. But, one thing is for sure, this file set captures two popular items in its design; one being the in-layed text look and the other being the pricing table/ web banners.

Top 10 Highest Earning Authors on the Envato Marketplaces

Earlier this year the Envato Marketplaces saw their first author to reach the plutonium status and sell more than a quarter of a million dollars worth of files. If that doesn’t inspire you to sell more stuff on the marketplaces, I don’t know what will. It also goes to show you that it is possible to create a very profitable passive income using the marketplaces.

Author Interview – CyanPepper

There are a number of authors on GraphicRiver who have quite a varied portfolio of works for sale on the marketplace. From the looks of it though, it seems like there are few with portfolio as diverse as CyanPeppers. While the majority of CyanPeppers files are hi-res texture packs, there is also a variety of other files like business card templates, vectors, and isolated objects to name a few.

Top 11 Best Blogs to See Cool Design “Stuff”

Why is it that many of us creative types seem to have fetish for techie things and cool looking stuff? I’m not just talking about your run of the mill cool stuff, but the really cool stuff that tends to have a really not cool price tag. Take this really cool watch for example.

If you are like me, you probably don’t have funds for many of the cool things you’d like. So, we are forced to do some cyber window shopping. If you are looking for some sites that showcase a number of cool gadgets, art, designers, architecture, toys, etc; then check out this list of my favorite blogs to window shop for things I can’ get.

Under the Radar – The MP-2 : The Mighty Presser

If you read Outlaw Design Blog, you may have noticed a post I did a while back about the web design trends of 2009. One of the popular trends was the letterpress look. GraphicRiver author has created a really nice Photoshop action to help you create this letterpress look with just the click of a button. The Photoshop action looks to be well put together and super simple to use. One thing that really makes this file stand out is the extra mile the author went to offer support for the file. Lichine created a screencast for the file to show those who might not be familiar with how Photoshop actions work, that clearly explains how to use the file.

Oddly enough, this file has only sold a few times. I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the poor sales number has to do with the poor image associated with the file. I think if Lichine created a better sales image with better examples, they would see a slight increase in sales.

File: The MP-2 : The Mighty Presser
Author: http://graphicriver.net/user/Lichine
Overview:
“So you want that trendy letterpress style fast, easy and without the risk of punching holes through your tablet?

The MP-2 gives you exactly that creative opportunity. Automated through two simple Actions, you can now letterpress ANY object and ANY letter into any background, be it textured, with a gradient or even an image of your mother-in-law.

The Actions include a Reload function, so after each press, your letterpress is moved to a safe folder and is again ready for yet another press. Faster workflow is ensured.”

Note: Comes with a default cork background shot at the place I work. Neat! Try space backgrounds, grass, water, wood, jeans, anything and see how creative you can get!

Includes:

- Zip file includes 1 .psd-file (All layered) and 1 .act-file (The “The Mighty Presser” Action). Also includes the Preview Image and a Font & Help Data document.

- 72 DPi (Optimized for Web-Use)

- 1600×1200 resolution.

- A completely realistic high-resolution photo of a cork plate to use as a default background texture. (Taken by me, use it freely)

Author Interview Chris Molitor

Chris is one of those designers who could be classified in a “Jack of many trades” category. He currently has over 20 files for sale across two Envato Marketplaces that add up to over 220 sales between them all. Chris is a prime example of how one can use their skills to build up a decent passive income with the Envato Marketplaces.

Meet your Site Manager! Interview with AmandaLinder

Who is your GraphicRiver Site Manager, where did she come from, why doesn’t she have a cooler portfolio? We’ve interviewed so many accomplished authors lately, I never thought I’d be asked to interview myself. At the behest of our crackerjack blogger, DannyOutlaw,  I sat down with a series of nine questions regarding what it’s like to manage a marketplace like GraphicRiver, how I got started with Envato, and my particular experiences in the design world.

Have a particular question you’d like to put to me? Feel free to leave a comment on this post and I’lll be glad to respond. (more…)

What a Good Marketplace Profile Should Look Like

I was looking around on YouTube at some Photoshop tutorials and just happen to notice the words “graphicriver” in the description of one of them. It so happened that the Photoshop video tutorial was created by a GraphicRiver author named KLANDA. KLANDA’s smart marketing and well informative profile page really impressed me. I think every Envato Marketplace author can learn a lot from how KLANDA is doing things.
