How to Use Twitter to Promote Your Stock Files
I have recently been using Twitter to find work for my Wordpress Designers website. (It’s in need of some TLC, I know) While replying to some tweets the other day, it dawned on me that the same basic principles could be used to promote stock work, be it Graphic River, Theme Forest, or any other stock website. You could even used the below method to promote your own stock files or designs.
The idea is a simple one and one that you may already be using to find work. To put it simply, I am merely suggesting that you use Twitter search to keep an eye out for people looking for whatever it is you are selling.
This idea works well to help you promote yourself on a variety of levels. On a basic level you can promote yourself as an artist of stock work. But if you end up getting some sales via twitter, you can then start passively building up your brand via twitter by other people seeing and sharing your work.
People are constantly asking about designers, themes, photography, etc on Twitter. It is only natural that you could use this community forum as a place to build up your brand, promote your stuff, and maybe even get some clients along the way.
Simple Ways to Promote Yourself
There are two ways of using the Twitter search to help you sell and promote your stock files. The first is to use Twitter search to keep an out for a specific term. For example; if you are selling icon sets, search for the phrase “icon sets” or maybe even “icons.”
The results for these search will probably one of two things. It will either be someone looking for icon set suggestions or someone recommending an icon set. Either way, you can use this to help promote your own stock files.
Obviously if the tweet is someone looking for a good icon set, you can suggest your set by sending them a link and description of your icon set.
If the tweet is someone suggesting an icon set, reply to their tweet saying something cool about the icon set and share yours with them.
How NOT to Promote Your Stuff
Obviously the first rule of thumb here is not to spam. Obviously anytime you create something new, it makes sense to promote it via Twitter. I would even say it is acceptable to re-promote things from time to time as long as they are spread out and not done in a spamming manner.
When replying to Tweets via search, it is important to choose your words wisely. Its easy to come across a pushy or spammy to people who aren’t following you and don’t know you. When you reply to search tweets, just be friendly and down to earth. Something like “Heard you needed some icons. I did some for Graphic River. LINK Let me know what you think.
” would probably go over well.
How to Do This in TweetDeck
While you can do similar thing in a variety of other Twitter clients, I am going to use TweetDeck in this tutorial, as it is my Twitter client of choice these days. If you already use TweetDeck, then this tutorial is probably not going to help you as you probably already know how to setup a search column. But if you have never used TweetDeck this tutorial will show you how to get started and set it up to use the above method of promoting your stock work.
Assuming you already have TweetDeck installed, click on the search icon in the top left menu of TweetDeck

Next, all you have to do is type in your search term. TweetDeck will then automatically create an additional column that pulls any Tweets that include your search phrase.

What, were you expecting it to be more complicated?
